以前、WSUSの記事を執筆させていただいたEnterpriseZineで、Windows Server 2008 Server Core関連の記事を書いてみました。
Server Coreは、ご存じのとおりコマンドラインのみで構成されたシンプルなOSなわけですが、コマンドラインをある程度使えないとまともに管理できません。これまでのGUIベースのWindows感覚でいると結構苦しみます。
というわけで、「ちゃんとコマンドラインを使って基本的なことを行えるようにしましょう」という記事を書いてみました。ご興味があればぜひ。

Windows Server 2008 RC0 とか [B. Microsoft] [Windows Server]
もういろいろな方が紹介しているみたいなのでわざわざ書くまでもないかもしれませんが一応。
来年早々にリリースが予定されている Windows Server 2008 ですが、ついに最初のRelease Candidate (RC) となる Windows Server 2008 RC0 がリリースされました。
Connect, MSDN 等いろいろな場所から入手できるようになっているみたいですが、一般向けとしてはDonwload Center(下記表)からダウンロードすることができます。
# Connect に参加している方であれば、そちらのほうが圧倒的に回線が速いのでおススメ。

他にも Windows Server Virtualization の最初のCTPがリリースされたり、Windows Vista SP1 のβ版が登場したりと慌ただしいです。私はまだこれらに手をつける時間的余裕がないです。。。

さて Windows Server 2008 ですが、RC0としてこのあと2か月ほど広くテストが行われ、11月か12月には最終公開テストビルドとなるRC1が登場してくるはずです。
RC0は実質、フィードバックの反映が可能な最後のビルドになると予測されますので、テスト予定の方は本腰を入れて取り組みましょう。

Windows Home Server が RTM に [B. Microsoft] [Windows Server]
このBlogでもおそらく何度かは取り上げた事のある家庭向けサーバーOS、「Windows Home Server」がRTMに入りました。

Windows Home Server は複数台のPC（含 Xbox, Windows Mobile）を持つ家庭向けサーバー製品で、主にファイル共有やバックアップなど複数台のPC環境ならではの課題を、とにかく簡単に取り扱えるように機能を絞ったシンプルなOSです。
いちおう Windows Server 2003 R2 の技術をベースにしているようですが、UIはかなり異なっていて、一般の家庭環境／ユーザーでも取り扱えるようにする事を最大のコンセプトとしています。
OEM版とパッケージ版の両方をリリースすると聞いていたのですが、当初はOEM版のみの提供になる模様です。現時点でリリースを表明しているOEMベンダーには6社で、Fujitsu-Siemens, Gateway, HP, Iomega, Lacie, Medion となっています。国内（日本語）での発売予定が曖昧なままなこともあり、国産メーカーには動きが見られません。
Redmond で Windows Home Server に携わっている Microsoft の社員さんに「日本でもすぐ出すんだよね？」と聞いたところ、「I hope so.」と軽く流されてしまったので、当面は国内での動きに期待する事はできないかも…
いずれにしても近いうちに評価版を入手できる予定ですので、とりあえず使ってみて感じがよさそうであれば随時レポートしていきたいと思います。

ここ最近のMicrosoft関連動向を Round Up [B. Microsoft] [SoftGrid] [System Center] [Windows Server]
サーバーメンテナンスを理由にBlogを中止したのが 6月20日。
それから20日ほど経過しているわけですが、やはりこの間もいろいろ情報が出てきていますね。ちょっと休んだだけで全然追いつけません…
全部というわけにはいきませんが、この期間中の主だったMicrosoft関連動向をまとめて。
【Windows Server 2008 June CTP がリリース】
Windows Server 2008 の最新テスト・ビルドとなる Windows Server 2008 June CTP が、6月末にリリースされています。Windows Server 2008 という正式名称確定後では初リリースになりますね。
いつものように Microsoft Connect からダウンロードできますし、TechNetやMSDNの会員はそれぞれのSubscriptionサイトからも入手可能です。
機能上の最大の変更は、Server Core で IISが動くようになったことですかね。もっとも.NET Frameworkは入らないので、静的コンテンツ限定のIISになりますが。
また一般公開されたβ3の次のビルドということもあり、β3のフィードバックをもとにして、かなりのバグフィックスが行われているようです。CTPは今後1－2回リリースされるものと思いますが、そろそろ機能検証も安定して行えるレベルに落ち着いてきているように感じます。β3やそれ以前のビルドで苦戦していた方も、そろそろリベンジする良いタイミングかと。
私も7月後半はほぼ Windows Server 2008 漬けになって、検証を行う予定です。

個人的にかなり期待している Microsoft Desktop Optimization Pack for SA (MDOP)が、7月1日付で提供開始されました。
MDOPはここ最近Microsoftが買収した一連の会社の管理製品を“抱合せ販売”したようなパッケージなのですが、そのひとつひとつを見るとかなり優秀なものが揃っています。
特に Microsoft SoftGrid Application Virtualization は昨今の仮想化ブームを少し別の切り口から攻め込むアプリケーション配信型仮想化技術であり、潜在的な需要はかなりあるものと思われます。
来週Softgridの勉強会が某所で開催されるので、そこでデモを見てよさそうであれば、真面目に取り組んでみるつもり。
あと個人的にお勧めなのが Microsoft Advanced Group Policy Management です。グループポリシーを管理するツールなのですが、最大の利点はチェックイン／チェックアウト機能がついていること。GPOのバージョン管理に悩まされれている企業も多いと思いますが、これをうまく使えばかなり楽になります。

MDOPに加え、Forefront Client Security も7月に正式リリースされました。個人的にはまだ強い興味をもてないんですが、世間の評判がよさそうであれば試してみようかな。
あともう少し先になりますが、System Center Essentials 2007も8月1日にリリース予定。これは結構検証してきているんですが、ぶっちゃけた感想としては「とても人には薦められない」かなと。
モノやコンセプトはいいんですけどね。
何で？と唸ってしまうような機能上の制限が多すぎます。たとえば、全端末ドメイン参加必須だったり、500台以上の端末を扱いたくてもひとつのドメインに複数のSCEを導入することができなかったり、MOMやWSUSと違ってグループの階層化がサポートされていなかったり、インベントリの拡張・カスタマイズができなかったりと…
「MOM+WSUS+α(ソフトウェア配布など)をお手軽に」とうたっているんですが、実際にはMOM単体やWSUS単体よりもかなり使い勝手が悪いです。MOMやWSUSを触ったことがない方に対しては薦めちゃってもいいかもしれませんが、知っている方にはお奨めしがたいです。

正式に発表です： Windows Server 2008 [B. Microsoft] [Windows Server]
フライング発表問題のおかげでややインパクトが下がってしまいましたが、米国時間の15日、予想通り WinHEC 2007 の基調講演において正式発表されました。

The name for this product, we've been working hard thinking about it. Microsoft has a lot of different names for things. We played around with a couple different ideas, but what we're going to go with is pretty straightforward, I think you'd say. This will simply be called Windows Server 2008. なお、今回の名称が "2008" となったことで一部「2007年中のリリースはなくなった」と認識されている方がいるようですが、それは正しくありません。Microsoft は基本的に4Q(10月-12月)にリリースした製品は翌年の年号をつけることが慣例となっており、今回もその流れに従ったと考えるのが自然でしょう。
（もちろん 2008 年にずれ込む可能性も残っていますが…）

Windows Server "Longhorn" の正式名称が確定に？ [B. Microsoft] [Windows Server]
フライング気味な気がしますが、Windows Server "Longhorn" の正式名称が確定したようだと各所で出回っています。

簡単に話をまとめると、来週 Los Angeles で開催予定の WinHEC 2007 に向けて Microsoft WinHEC Virtual Pressroom が作られたのですが、そのメニューや本文内に "Windows Server 2008" という文字がいくつか載ってきてしまったようです。
そして数時間後には、その部分が Windows Server "Longhorn" に訂正されていた模様。
単純に考えて、間違えて書いてアップしちゃったんでしょうね… で気づいて、あわてて修正したと。
というわけで、海外のWeb/ML等々でかなりお祭りになっていましたが、現時点では正式名称は確定していません。
製品名が Windows Server 2008 になることは 99% 間違いないと思いますが、今回の動きを見ていると来週の WinHEC 基調講演あたりで正式発表する流れになるのかと思います。

Windows Server "Longhorn" β3 [B. Microsoft] [Windows Server]
昨日宣言したとおり、本日は Windows Server "Longhorn" Beta3 セミナー に参加してきました。
そのレポートも書きたいと思いますが、少々お疲れ気味のため後日にするということで、とりあえず今日のところはもっと重要な一点。

以前からの予告どおり、26日付で Beta 3 の一般公開が始まりました。
これまで Beta 2 や CTP が Microsoft Connect 上で提供されてきていましたが、いわゆる“一般サイト”から誰でもダウンロード可能になったのは今回が初めてになります。
また機能制限が多かったBeta 2 と違い、原則として製品に搭載される予定のすべての機能が実装されています。
実際のウンロードですが、手順の最後の部分（ファイル・ダウンロード）が分かり難いかもしれません。ただ、上記サイト内に「Windows Server “Longhorn” Beta 3 のダウンロード手順書」がありますので、その手順に従えば問題ないでしょう。

私自身は Beta 2 以降いくつかのCTPで細々とテストしてきてはいたんですが、今回の Beta 3 を機にかなり本格的に検証に取り組む予定です。今、そのテストケース作成やらなんらやで忙しかったりする感じです…

PowerShell が Longhorn に標準搭載されることが確定 [B. Microsoft] [Shell/Script] [Windows Server]
現在 San Diego では、Microsoft Management Summit 2007 の真っ最中ですね。
続々と興味深い話があがってきているようで、参加できないのが何とも歯がゆいばかりです。
TechNet Blogs や MyITforum Blogs を中心に相当数のMMS2007関連記事があがってきていてますが、特に注目すべき記事については少しずつ紹介していきたいと思います。
で、第一弾は PowerShell の話。

Windows Vista への標準搭載は残念ながら見送られてしまった Windows PowerShell 。
このたび Windows Server "Longhorn" に関しては、標準コンポーネントとして含まることが正式発表されました。一部には Longhorn であっても別途追加導入しなければいけないのではないかという噂があっただけに、これはうれしい材料です。標準コンポーネントなのか（別途ダウンロード＆インストールが必要な）アドインツールなのかによって、ぜんぜん世間的な普及度合い／普及速度が違ってきますからね…
なお、4月中の一般公開が予定されている Windows Server "Longhorn" Beta 3 でも最初から入ってくるようです。 PowerShell ベースの運用は間違いなくデファクトになっていくと思いますので、Lnghorn の検証をされる際は PowerShell 関連も見逃さないようにしましょう。

一家に一台： Windows Home Server [A. IT全般] [B. Microsoft] [Windows Server]
なんか海の向こうでは 2007 International CES でかなり盛り上がっていますね。
CES は Consumer Electronics Show の略で、今年で40回目となる全米家電協会主催の世界最大の家電展示会です。
私は家電系にはできるだけ興味を持たないように努力している（＝一旦興味を持ってしまうと抜け出せないほど熱中してしまうので。。。）のですが、今年の基調講演では Windows IT系な人々にとって見逃せない製品の発表が行われました。
すでにご存知の方も多いと思いますが、 家庭向け初のサーバーOS となる Windows Home Server です。
いよいよ一家に一サーバーという時代が来る可能性があるかと思うと、IT を取り巻く環境の変化に改めて驚かされます。
欧米と日本では家庭環境や文化の違いがありますが、現段階ではどちらの環境でも期待を持てそうな新製品です。
詳細な説明は今後順次出てくると思いますので、とりあえず今日は CES での Windows Home Server 関連 (Bill Gates の基調講演関連) のページを一気に貼り付けておきたいと思います。

Windows Server 2003 SP2 情報 [B. Microsoft] [Windows Server]
来年1Q中のリリースが予定されている Windows Server 2003 Service Pack 2 ですが、着実に情報も出回り始めてきていますね。
昨日の TechNet Flash Japan Newsletter でも、トップ記事が Windows Server 2003 SP2 に関するものでした。
SP2 は、Windows Server 2003 SP1 や Windows XP SP2 に比較すると機能上の変更が圧倒的に少ないため、すでに SP1 もしくは R2 適用済みの環境であれば大きな混乱が発生する可能性は低いと思います。
# SPなしの状態から SP2 を直接適用することも可能ですが、この場合はそれ相当の慎重さが必要です。
現在は SP2 RC 版がダウンロードできるようになっていますので、時間があれば直接テスト環境に適用してみるのもありですが、それが難しい場合でも下記の２つのページぐらいは抑えておいたほうがよいです。

タイトルのとおり、SP2 に関する FAQ がまとめられています。私はこれを見て初めて知ったんですが、Windows Server 2003 (x64) の SP2 導入モジュールと Windows XP Professional x64 Edition 用 SP2 ってまったく同一のモノを使用することが出来るんですね。
そういえば XP x64 版って、１－２回ほど何かの検証で使ったぐらいで真面目に使ったことないなぁ。
世間的な状況を見ても、（数年のうちには間違いなく64bitが主流になると思いますが）現時点ではまだまだこれからといった様子でしょうか。

そしてこちらは Windows PowerShell の ADM ファイル (PowerShellExecutionPolicy.adm)。
まぁADMファイルといっても設定項目は現時点で１つだけのようでして、 PowerShell の実行を許可するかしないか、許可する場合は署名ありのものだけ許可するのか、といったことを制御するだけになっています。

あとすでにご存知の方も多いかと思いますが、新しい管理用テンプレートフォーマットである ADMX へのコンバージョンツールである ADMX Migrator なんてのも公開されていますね。
特に多言語環境で Active Directory を運用している企業にとって、かなり有用なツールです。

Windows Server 2003 SP2 - RC版 リリース [B. Microsoft] [Windows Server]
Windows Vista やら 2007 Microsoft Office system に世間の目が奪われている今日この頃ですが、Windows Server 2003 の Service Pack 2 が、Release Candidate として登場しました。

AD 関連でたいへんタメになる Blog 記事を見つけたのでご紹介。

Active Directory 環境における、ユーザー／コンピュータ等のさまざまな "Limits" が解説されています。
たとえば、
- コンピュータ オブジェクトやユーザー オブジェクトに適用可能な GPO は 999個まで。
- ひとつのドメインを構成できる Domain Contoller は、1,200台まで。
- Windows 2000 ベースの AD では、ユーザーやコンピュータが所属できるグループの数は 5,000 グループまでだった。Windows Server 2003 ベースの AD では制限なし。
- GUI ベースで設定可能な UPN 件数は最大 850 個。
普通に Active Directory を利用する分には、なかなかこれらの限界点に悩まされることはないだろうと思いますが、万が一ということも考えて頭の片隅にでも入れておくとよいかと思います。

ここ最近は私の記憶によみがえることのなかった ADFS （Active Directory フェデレーションサービス） ですが、本日ふと思い出す機会がありました。

なお 2005年の Tech・Ed Yokohama に参加した方に関しては、「T5-362 ： Windows Server 2003 R2 Active Directory Federation Services (ADFS) の全貌」 というセッションの資料やセッション映像が有用です。
ADFS は１年やそこらで普及するような仕組みではありませんが、コンセプトとしては非常に面白いものがあり、将来的には必須の存在になっていく可能性を秘めています。ご興味と時間があればぜひ一度環境を作って見ることをお奨めします。

誰もが使えるようになった Windows Server 2003 Datacenter Edition [B. Microsoft] [Windows Server]
これまで H/W ベンダーからの OEM としてのみ提供されてきていた Windows Server 2003 Datacenter Edition (R2) ですが、2006年10月より提供形態が大幅に緩和・拡大されました。また、それにあわせてライセンス形態の変更も行われています。

最大の変更点は、Volume License プログラムを通じて、誰でも Datacenter Edition を入手できるようになったことです。従来は Datacenter High Availability Program のもと 特定 H/W ベンダーからのみ購入できる代物でしたが、一般企業が相当気軽に購入できるようになりました。
もう一つの大きな変更点は、最近最も熱い仮想化技術に絡むライセンス形態の変更。
今後は Datacenter Edition のライセンス1つ (per processor) で、その上で稼動させる Windows Server 2003 (Standard/Enterprise/Datacenter Edition) 仮想 OS を無制限に利用できるようになりました。
この新形態は、 Windows Server "Longhorn" の Datacenter Edition にも適用されることがすでに発表されています。

なお公式発表内に記載はありませんが、1プロセッサあたりの価格は $2,999 (CAL は別途必要) のようです。仮想化技術とうまく組み合わせて使用できれば、Datacenter Edition の堅牢さとコストメリットの両面を享受することができそうです。楽しみが増えてまいりました。

フォルダ－アクセス権マップ [B. Microsoft] [Windows Server]
まだ私は試していないのですが、シナリオによっては有用なものになるかもしれないツールをひとつご紹介。

共有フォルダの構成一覧を、視覚的に Visio や Excel に書き出してくれるようです。単純に共有フォルダの階層構造が分かるだけではなく、共有アクセス権／NTFSアクセス権 両方の設定状況も視覚化してくれます。
環境をあまり把握していない企業／部門のIT利用形態概要を掴みたい場合なんかに利用できるかも。

ちょっと調べ物をしていて、偶然見つけたWebページ(PDFファイル)をご紹介。

Group Policy の管理を容易にしてくれる、サードパーティ製ツールがいくつか紹介されています。
日本の場合、（NetIQ などのごく一部の企業を除くと、） Active Directory 周りの運用管理を助けるソフトウェア開発会社ってほとんどないんですが、海外に目を向けると専門企業も多いですね。
紹介されているツールのうち幾つかは触ったことがあるのですが、思っている以上に運用コスト（時間）が削減されるケースも多いです。
何か特定の運用管理作業に時間がかかっていると感じる場合は、サードパーティ・ツールの利用を検討してみるのも手だと思います。

"Windows Server 2003 Service Pack 2 Technical Beta [B. Microsoft] [Windows Server]
Windows Vista や Windows Server "Longhorn" の勢いに押されて、すっかり私の頭からも消えてしまっていたのですが、今年後半に Windows Server 2003 Service Pack 2 がリリースされる予定です。
そんな存在感の薄い "Windows Server 2003 SP2" ですが、いつの間にやら Microsoft Connect から、 Technical Beta 版が利用できるようになっていました。
下記にプログラム情報を転記しておきます。
We have a great beta opportunity for you testing Windows Server 2003 Service Pack 2 (SP2). Participation will consist of software installation, application testing, answering surveys, reporting bugs, and providing feedback. This will generally require a few hours per week is scheduled to run from summer 2006. Besides getting an early look at the software, you will also be eligible for rewards based on how active your participation is. Windows Server 2003 SP2 is scheduled to release H2 2006. MMCスナップイン ショートカット集 [B. Microsoft] [Windows Server]
2003年の記事ですが。。。 何かと最近管理ワークが多いので改めて。

Windows Server 標準のMMCスナップインと、その .MSC ファイル名のリスト。
「Active Directory ユーザーとコンピュータ」の dsa.msc, 「イベント ビューア」の eventvwr.msc, 「グループ ポリシー」の gpedit.msc, 「サービス」の services.msc といったあたりは、[ファイル名を指定して実行]から日常的に利用している方も多いと思いますが、その他も頭に入れておけば、1回あたりの作業時間を数秒～数十秒は短縮できますね。
# ただリンク先の表をパラッと見る限り、全部の MSC ファイルが網羅されているわけではないみたいです。(Winsmgmt.msc など)
日ごろ特定の管理コンソールを開くことが多い方は、（まぁスナップインを保存するという方法もあるわけですが）元になるMSCファイルを調べておくとよいと思います。
個別アプリケーションのインストールによって追加される管理スナップインを含め、大半のMSCファイルは "system32" フォルダに含まれています。

[Longhorn] Server Core blog [B. Microsoft] [Windows Server]

Windows Server "Longhorn" でついに実現される GUI を持たない Windows Serer, 「Server Core」 に特化したBlogが開設されました。
Server Core は、Active Directory, DHCP, DNS といった最も基本的なサーバー機能（コンポーネント）のみを安定稼動させることに主眼を置いており、GUI は提供されません。Linux でいうところのランレベル3をベースに、極めて簡易的な X Window を組み込んだものというイメージです。
# ランレベル3とは作りや意味合いが異なっており、たとえばメモ帳なんかは notepad と入力すれば起動できます。
# ちなみに、同じWindowsアプリでも電卓(calc)とかは Server Core に含まれていないので、起動できません。
私の主観によるメリットをあげると、「ヘッドレス・サーバーが可能になる」「余分なモジュールが入っていないので、より安定稼動する」「必要スペックが相対的に低いはずなので、チープな端末しかない検証環境でも動作可能」「Server Core を前提としてMicrosoftが開発を行うようになり、よりコマンドラインが充実するようになる（はず）」「GUIベースの管理を蔑んでいる、一部のUNIX信奉者と正面から対抗できる（はず）」といったあたりが注目点になります。
ちなみに、Server Core で GUI が提供されなくなるといっても、もともと各コンポーネントが持つ管理ツールなどが消えてしまうわけではないので、たとえばネットワーク越しにクライアントPCからMMCを立ち上げて、「Active Directory ユーザーとコンピュータ」を起動・管理することも可能です。
サーバーというものの本来的な在り方を考えれば、Longhorn 以降は着実に Server Core によるインストールもシェアを伸ばしていくものと思います。

β2 いろいろ [B. Microsoft] [Office] [Vista/XP] [Windows Server]
Windows Vista Beta 2, Windows Server "Longhorn" Beta 2, 2007 Microsoft Office System Beta 2 と一気にβ2が公開されたことは、すでに言うまでもないと思います。
Windows Vista Beta 2 と Windows Server "Longhorn" Beta 2 に関しては、MSDN サブスクライバ ダウンロード サイト からダウンロード可能です。
2007 Microsoft Office System Beta 2 は、専用サイト から登録さえすれば誰でもダウンロードできるようになっています。こちらは日本語のベータ版も提供されている模様です。
さて、私も先ほどより順次ダウンロードを開始したところなんですが、ひとつ困った点が。
ハードディスク容量が足りない！！
Windows Vista に関しては先日書いたように、TOSHIBA M200 に専用パーティションを用意しているので問題ないんですが、他はテスト用途ということで VMWare 上に作ることを想定していました。
が、ほぼ各種VMWareイメージ格納目的で使用している自宅のHDD（実容量 600GB ）の空き容量がわずか2.5GB。
削除できそうなファイルを探すも、現時点では見つからず…━━━━(TДT)━━━━!!
まさかハードディスク容量で悩むことになるとは思ってもいませんでした。
うーん、なんとかして空き容量を作らないと…

2007 Office System Beta 2 Administrative Templates (ADM) [B. Microsoft] [Office] [Windows Server]
2007 Office System のβ2正式公開に１日だけ先駆けて、5月22日付けで "the 2007 Microsoft Office system" 用グループポリシー管理用テンプレート（ADMファイル）のβ2がリリースされました。
# Longhorn Server で新しくなる"ADMXファイル"ではなく、"ADMファイル"です。

Excel 2007 や Outlook 2007 などの最も基本的なアプリケーション用のテンプレートだけではなく、SharePoint Designer 2007 や InterConnect, さらには Office System としての新製品になる Groove 2007 用のファイルも用意されています。
まだβ2ということで、ポリシー項目数は想像していたほどは多くないんですが、すでにいくつか興味深い新設項目も見受けられます。

個人的な感覚では、これまで Office 用のグループポリシーってそれほど有効活用されていないケースが多いんですよね。
Exchange Server & Outlook を導入していている場合なんかでは、パス指定や添付ファイルの取り扱いなどで利用しているケースが比較的よくあるんですが、それ以外で Office の管理用テンプレートを活用している企業ってまだまだ少数派だと思います。
内部統制だの情報セキュリティだのと叫ばれる今日、Office 向けのポリシーももう少し評価されてもいいと思うんですけどね…

Windows Server 2003 SP2 スケジュール [B. Microsoft] [Windows Server]
10日間ほど前にアップデートされた Windows Service Pack Road Map のページなどでもすでに情報が出てきつつある現在ですが、Windows Server 2003 SP2 のリリース計画が徐々に明らかになってきています。

まだ公式なページでの正式発表は発見できていないのですが、上記ページなどで明らかになっている情報をまとめると、
- Windows Server 2003 SP2 のリリースは、2006.2H を予定
- 今夏中にテスト版が公開される予定
- Windows Server 2003 「R2」 が適用されていない初期出荷版にも対応する
- Windows XP SP3 は、2007.2H とまだ少し先の話
2006.2H というと、企業向け Windows Vista がリリースされる時期でもあります。そちらと前後どちらが先になるかまでは確認できていませんが、おそらく Windows Server 2003 SP2 の提供が先になってくるものと予測しています。
おそらくこの SP2 では、純粋に Longhorn Server への移行ステップになるだけではなく、 Windows Vista 固有の機能に対する実装がある程度なされてくるはずですから。
いずれにせよ今年後半は、クライアントにサーバーにといろいろ慌しくなりそうな気配です。

【書籍】Windowsサーバークックブック [B. Microsoft] [Windows Server]
MSKK ITプロ エバンジェリストチーム監修の書籍 「Windowsサーバークックブック ― ネットワーク管理者のためのレシピ集」が出版されたということで、早速チェックしに行ってみました。

本日は偶然（または意図的に？）渋谷でのお仕事を入れていたので、昼食代わりに渋谷の書店巡り。
私が普段利用している文教堂書店 渋谷店など残念ながら置いて いない書店もありましたが、ブックファースト渋谷店にて平積みされているのを発見。運よく原書「Windows Server Cookbook For Windows Server 2003 & Windows 2000」も発見できたため、合わせてチェックです。
さていきなり結論ですが、内容はすごく気に入ったものの、購入にまで至りませんでした。
理由はただひとつ、“原書の全てがカバーされているわけではなかった” からです。
原書のTable of Contents と 翻訳版の目次 を比較していただくと分かるのですが、原書の2章から9章までが省かれていて、代わりに「付録のG」として "Window Server 2003 R2" に関する記述が追加されています。
最新のR2に対応した記述が追加されている点は高評価なのですが、てっきり全訳されていると勘違いしていたため落胆は隠せず・・・
日本語化されている部分（ネットワーク関連/AD & Exchange回り など）に比べれば、省略された部分（ディスク管理/タスク設定 など）に対するニーズは確かに低い気もしますが、せっかくなら分量の多い原書を購入したほうがベターかなと。GUI／コマンドライン／スクリプトの3パターンで特定の目的を達成する方法を順次説明する展開で、文章量はそんなに多くないので、英語である点は大きな問題にならないとも思いますし。
というわけで、Amazon.co.jp で原書(￥4,566) を購入することにしました。本当はブックファーストで即買いしたかったのですが、6,000円ちょっとの値付けだったので・・・

「Windowsサーバークックブック ― ネットワーク管理者のためのレシピ集」に対する純粋な感想としては、この手の書籍を求めている人にとっては間違いなく“当たり”だろうということになります。特に、同じ O'Reilly から出版されている「Windowsサーバー Hacks ― 管理者必携のテクニック & WSHスクリプト 100選」などが好きな方にとっては大いに満足できる一品だと思います。
実際に使えるコマンドラインの形式やサンプルスクリプトが充実している点はもちろんですが、なかなか自分では探し出せないような各種ツールを使った方法なども散りばめられており、手元に置いておくと安心できる一冊であることは確実です。ただひとつ残念なのが、原書よりコンテンツが減ってしまっている点か・・・
というわけで、英語がどうしてもイヤだ！という方には今回出版された翻訳本を、それ以外のすべてのWindows管理者には原書をお奨めします。
